Although it is not a curative therapy, acupressure can help us feel much better and relieve different ailments in a natural way. And in today’s article, that’s what we are going to uncover.

Acupressure is a technique originating from traditional Chinese medicine, similar to acupuncture. According to a study in Spain, acupuncture is based on the stimulation of specific points of our body with needles to promote the welfare of a specific area or the whole of our body; acupressure seeks the same, but using the hands.

If you have never tried it, it may seem strange but it never hurts to start applying it on a daily basis to assess the results. Acupressure can:

  • Release accumulated tension
  • Increase blood circulation
  • Reduce pain
  • Promote relaxation

With this theory we deduce that it can come in handy at a given moment when, for example, we feel overwhelmed by stress. We do not lose anything by trying it.

It is important to clarify that this is an alternative therapy. In no case is it intended to cure any disease.

Acupressure only seeks to improve well-being and offer a more natural treatment to ordinary medical approaches.

If at any time you suffer from a headache, feel exhausted from a long day of work or want to improve your circulation, do not hesitate. Put these points into practice and find out how they make you feel.

  1. Acupressure on the “Third Eye”

Acupressure on the so-called third eye is one of the most common points when treating migraines or headaches.

This point is located right in the center of the eyebrows, above the nose.

Applying pressure to this area stimulates multiple blood vessels. This improves circulation and oxygenation of the site. It can thus favor the treatment of skin problems (bags, dark circles …).

To stimulate it you have two mechanisms:

The first is simple: just apply pressure with your index finger for 60 seconds.

The second way is very relaxing: without lifting your finger from the “third eye”, make a circular motion.

  1. The Bamboo Point

The bamboo point is indicated for relaxation, stress relief and decongest the nose. The latter is explained because the stimulation is performed on an important point of the nostrils.

To find the bamboo point, just place your index fingers on the inner corners of your eyes.

In this case, you only have to use your fingertips to exert pressure on these points for one minute.

We should avoid making force, it is only about pressing.  If we overdo it, we will feel from pain to visual alterations, such as spots or lights.

  1. The Point of “the Doors of Consciousness”

This point is located at the nape of the neck, just at the base of the skull. Its stimulation radiates to two essential muscles in this area of our body: the trapezius and the sternocleidomastoid.

The benefits of applying acupressure in this area are multiple and worth trying.  However, these are points on the body that are difficult to reach by oneself, so it is better to ask someone to help you.

Stimulating the so-called “gateway of consciousness” point relieves headache and neck stiffness.

It will also help to reduce vertigo, dizziness, eye pain and even tinnitus.

What should be done to perform this therapy?

  • The assistant must locate very well both sides of the base of our neck.
  • Then he/she should press them for 5 seconds with the fingertips.
  • Then he/she will perform a massage with the knuckles for 3 minutes.
  • Ideally, you should remain lying down during the whole process.
