Red spots on the legs are a very annoying blemish that can occur in both men and women. Taking care of the legs in particular is one of the major concerns of women. In order to have beautifully toned legs, it is important to get rid of all the spots and imperfections. Read the article to find out how easy it is to compensate with the products you already have at home.
Red Spots on Legs: Possible Folliculitis
We all want them to be smooth, but often, if we continue removing hair, we end up with redness. Leg skin, like all skin on the body, needs to be nourished, cared for, well covered with sunscreen, and gently shaved. Often, red pockmarks appear despite shaving the legs, which is folliculitis. Folliculitis is a bacterial infection of the hair follicle caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus or Pityrosporum. The skin is actually red and inflamed to protect the body from outside forces. If a rash or small, persistent red spots appear, it tells us there may be a problem with the skin’s PH. When this happens, the legs will have red spots, and the hair follicles, irritated by excessive tearing or hair removal with a sharp razor blade, will be screaming for “help!”.
Leg Folliculitis May Be Caused by Hair Removal
Epilation folliculitis is superficial if it disappears within a few days after hair removal, and deep if it requires dermatologist intervention and the cause is traumatic.
Hair removal is one of the first causes of folliculitis. Electric epilators, depilatory creams, and even razor blades can be the root of bacterial infections that strain the legs and cause redness and pain on the legs. Hot waxing can also cause intense tearing coupled with heat, which can traumatize the skin. It is common for people with particularly sensitive and delicate skin to experience redness after waxing. In addition to the normal redness after waxing, severe symptoms with pus and blood pustules may already be present. In this case, the patient should not shave for several weeks and should see a dermatologist. Only a physician can determine the occurrence of symptoms and guide you to the best solution.
Another disadvantage of self-hair removal (but also a disadvantage of the beautician!) is the buried hairs that cause an intense itching on the legs. Folliculitis is not contagious, but it can be transmitted to other body parts by razor blades or dirty towels!
Treatment for Folliculitis: How to Say Goodbye to Red Spots on Legs
There are many treatments to get rid of red spots on the legs (depending, of course, on the severity of the infection). If you have folliculitis, forget about shaving. Stop all hair removal, from waxing to shaving, and give the skin on your legs a chance to regrow.
On top of that, you may want to opt for a soothing agent with active ingredients. You may want to choose anti-inflammatory, antibiotic or antibacterial creams. Moisturizing and soothing creams applied to the legs and antiseptic creams such as chlorhexidine are very suitable for folliculitis. If the folliculitis is superficial, natural remedies such as rice milk, zinc oxide, and aloe vera can effectively reduce discomfort and itching.
Ice packs and very cold water can also be tried to help soothe red, sore skin. Many herbs and plants can help reduce the cause of spotty redness on the feet, such as garlic, thyme, and bergamot oil, as well as echinacea and hypericum oil, which have antibacterial and antiseptic properties. A few drops may be added to moisturizers. However, these plants’ antibiotic and antiseptic effects should be used in moderation, as intensive and continuous use can even have serious undesirable effects on health. To treat your legs gently, you can use essential oils such as almond, coconut, or shea to relieve itching. A chamomile and honey compress also reduces discomfort and deepens the epidermis.
