Everything You Need To Know About Concealers

Are you wondering which concealer you need and how to use it? Here are some things you need to know about this fantastic beauty product!

What Do You Use Your Concealer For?

There was a time when people barely knew what the word “concealer” meant. Later, we all learned that concealer is used to hide blemishes and imperfections on the face.

Very often, when we go to the store to buy a concealer, we might feel lost. There are various jars, bottles, and even sticks of concealers on the cosmetics shelf, yet they are all different. As a result, many of us end up leaving without purchasing any because of the abundant choices.

To avoid this kind of situation, here are some tips and things to know about concealers!

How to Use a Concealer?

There are many different types of concealers, and you can choose one depending on what you need and your skin type.

Which Color to Choose?

Do you want to know what concealer you need? Follow these three rules.

1) Want to get rid of dark circles? Then use a concealer that is one or two shades lighter.

2) Want to camouflage pale imperfections on your face without using foundation? Use a concealer that is the same color as your skin.

3) Want to hide obvious or intense dark circles, pigmentation spots, or bumps? Use a green or orange concealer.

Which Concealer to Choose Based on Your Skin Type?

Once you know what concealer color you need, it’s time to find the right concealer for your skin type.

Which One to Apply First, Foundation or Concealer?

If you are wondering whether you should use foundation or concealer first, here are three different situations to help you decide.

1) Do you want to apply concealer without foundation? Then use a concealer that perfectly matches your skin tone.

2) Using concealer to hide scars or very dark spots? Apply the concealer first, then the foundation.

3) In all other cases, you can apply foundation first and then concealer or the other way round. There is no right or wrong answer; it is a matter of personal preference.

Cream Concealer

Do you have normal skin, combination skin, or oily skin? Then use a cream concealer. If you have dry skin, you should avoid using a cream concealer because it will emphasize the dry areas.

Oil-Control Cream Concealer

If you have oily skin with open pores, the oil-control cream concealer is ideal for you. Make sure to use a good primer first to avoid having shiny areas.

Concealer Sticks

Stick concealers can give you a more natural look. They are generally a little thinner in consistency than cream concealers; they can be compared to the consistency of lipstick.

They are usually available in:

Satin finish (dry to combination skin)

Matte finish (combination to oily skin).

Tip: If you’re using a concealer stick with a satin finish? Then be sure to apply powder.  This will help it last longer and prevent it from running into fine lines and wrinkles at the end of the day.

Use Liquid Concealer for a Natural Finish

Liquid concealers generally have less coverage than cream concealers. This gives it a more natural finish, allowing the structure of the skin to be seen clearly.

You can also use liquid concealer without foundation. However, be careful with the finish since not all of them are suitable for all skin types:

Satin finish (suitable for mature or dry skin)

Matte finish (long-lasting, suitable for oily skin)

For instance, if you have mature skin, you may want to use a concealer with a satin finish; it prevents fine lines and wrinkles from being emphasized. Besides, liquid concealers are said to be less irritating to the skin of those suffering from acne.
